So, winter is here again and the first snow fall hit Castle Dale! The kids were pretty excited, including Josh. All morning I was waiting for Josh to ask me the same question he does every year when the the first snow fall hits, which is "Can I give the kids a snow bath!-(navajo traditon, you just roll in the fresh snow that had just fallen)" Years before I would tell him they were just tooo small and they would probably be scarred for life. Well this year I finally said, "Yes, you can give them a snow bath! We tried to make it a positive thing for the kids, cause really it is. I was always told by my parents that it would make me less selfish. After my snow bath as a kid I always felt a rush of freshness and excitement knowing I did something that was out of the ordinary. It was like I was testing my bodies strength and weakness. It was fun knowing I withstood the cold and that made me feel just a bit more confident. Well, for our kids, hopefully their stories will be positive too!! Josh was so hyped to give our kids their first snow baths, instead of hearing stories from my sister and brother, who have already started that tradition with their kids. So here it is! We have pictures to show proof!!
Tyler on the other hand screamed and screamed!! Well, it has been a couple of days since than and it seems every chance taytay gets she tell someone she took a bath in the snow. People have given us weird looks, but that's okay...We were just excited to continue this tradition. I still remember my first time as a kid!!

Oh my gosh!! Your kids are brave! I'd never let someone do that to me and neither would I let Granite do that to our boys even though he'd like to cause that was done to them when they were kids as well. Is it a Navajo thing? Maybe that's why people were looking at you guys weird.
Jess-yes its a navajo tradition and one i was weary of too. I finally let josh give them a snow bath. He wanted to give it to them when they were younger, but i stood my ground and said no. Now that taytay and tyler were 4 and 3.. i thought it was okay,,,but heavens no, not the baby yet. Maybe until he is three!!! I think most rez kids had this done to them!! I remember it was an exhilarating experience and was always told it would make me less selfish..hehehehehe
rYo'sea is getting her first snow bath this year. Good thing we are headed some place with snow for Christmas. She needs to be less selfish already. We had a little girl over to play and Yo'sea laid on top of all of her Beanie babies so the little girl wouldn't touch them. TIME FOR A SNOW BATH!
P.S. I LOVE that Tay tay is smiling.
Hi! I remember when I was small living in Tsaile, AZ and my dad throwing my siblings and I into the snow. We would have a ball and attack my dad. Now we are all grown and have our own lives...Thanks for sharing and bringing back memories.
I forgot about that. I'm pretty sure I had tears most of the time & a little kicking & screaming as well. But it worked! I'm the nicest girl on the block!
wow - that is quite a tradition! Hope it builds the kids confidence as it did yours. ;)
Glad I never had to have a Snow Bath!!! Mosiah would be devestated I'm sure! Looks like they had fun!
