Okay, so I should be doing homework that has been piling up, but I just had to try this!! And yes, I did find this method on pinterest. It was the starch method. At first I was opting for the Steam-A-Seal 2 method, but I figured if all else failed, I could sew all my pieces onto a nice fabric and make a quilt. And for some reason I did not want to start small! I wanted a tree! I was a bit worried it wouldn't work, so I decided a medium size tree would do! I think I spent 30 min drawing the patterns out and taping it together. I think it took another 10-15 minutes to cut it out.
I made the starch water/glue before I started the cutting fabric process.
Once I had most of my pieces cut out, I started!!
I was worried it would fall right off, but nope it stuck!
Here is a pic of some of my pattern pieces. First, I drew the tree out on paper and taped all the pieces together. Once it was all taped, I than cut the tree pattern into pieces. I think I ended up with ten pieces. I'm not a very good drawer, so my tree may look a bit weird.
I think it took me less than 5 minutes to cut the leaves out. I also used 1/5 yard of fabric for leaves and one yard for the tree branches with plenty left over.
This was before I added the leaves.
I just splattered them everywhere.
My end project!!! yay! I am really happy about it. The fabric is sticking!!
Well, after taking a step back, I now want to make the tree fuller with more branches! The nice thing about it, is I can! I just peel right off and add more! I need to make it more fuller on top! I think all together this took me about two hours or less. pattern to finished product!
In some areas the fabric was still drying! I really like it and can't wait to add animals, birds, flowers, and etc.. Like I said the possibilities are endless. I think my tree is about 3ft tall and some.
I think this pic gives you a better idea of how much more space I have to work with! I'm think I'll add two more feet. I'm not in a hurry to finish, but once I find myself free from school work and other things, I can add more!! I'm excited about the animals!! Can't wait.
This picture was my inspiration!! I'm not to worried about this project and wasting fabric. If all else fails, I can just make a cute tree quilt with cute animals!! Here is the website: http://howaboutorange.blogspot.com/2008/07/starched-fabric-decal-experiment.html
Aren't the followers below cute!! I'm thinking big flowers along the wall!!
